Pupils across Harrow tore open invaluable brown envelopes on Thursday morning with nervous anticipation. Inside were the results of the most important academic exams they have sat to date: their GCSEs.

Hatch End High School saw their best ever examination results at GCSE securing a position in the top 10 per cent of all schools nationally.

A record breaking 71 per cent of students achieved A* to C in English and Maths.

More than 75 per cent of students achieved five A* to C GCSE higher grades, and 20 per cent of all grades achieved were A*s or As.

Headteacher Sue Maguire said: "These outstanding outcomes are the result of the exceptional work of our staff and governors who go beyond the extra mile, the fantastic efforts and application of our students to whom we offer our warm congratulations, and our brilliant parent/carer body for their unstinting support over the years.

"We wish all our young people the very best for their futures with the vast majority expected to join our highly successful Sixth Form next week."

Bryan D’Rozario and Marie Cleary, who steered the year group through the years, said: "It has been a privilege working with such an amazing group of students.

"They have always been hard working, enthusiastic and deserve all their outstanding results. We couldn’t be more proud today."

Whitmore High School students celebrated more than a quarter of grades at A* and A, 73 per cent gaining A* to C in both English and Maths.

Head of year Andy Harris said: "A huge congratulations to all our Year 11 students and a big thank you to our parents and carers for all their support – we could not have done it without you."

Joseph Molander, who got 10 A*s and an A, said: "It's something you hear so often but it really is satisfying to have the hard work pay off.

"Next stop A Levels and then Economics at university to understand the way the financial world works."

Nacima Muday, who got nine A*s and two As, said: "I'm really proud of my GCSE results and excited to do my A Levels next year at Whitmore because now I know I'm capable of achieving my goals if I work hard.

"Thank you to the teachers who believed in me."

Harrow High School students achieved hundreds of A and A* grades across the board, with 18 learners achieving five A-A*s and above.

The overall school outcomes include 50 per cent of learners achieving the basics measure of English and Maths.

Yalman Ahadi achieved unbelievable grades, earning one A**, ten A*s, one A and one B. He said: "It’s unbelievable - a miracle to get an A** in Further Maths.

"I am so happy. I’d like to thank all my teachers especially in Maths and English, and everyone that made this possible and for believing in me."

Sara Elawadi, who got thirteen A*s and two As, said: "I’m really really really pleased.

"I thought I’d done well but this is beyond my dreams.

"It was because I stayed focused in lessons, got no behaviour points at all, had 100 per cent attendance and punctuality, and most importantly a belief that I can do it, that I got to this point."

Students at Harrow's Northwood School are celebrating another set of outstanding results today with 76 per cent of students achieving GCSEs in both English and Maths.

With many students out-performing their targets, there was a flood of top grades and some great individual performances.

Daniel Larbi, who achieved nine As* and three As, said: "I am so delighted with my results and I am grateful beyond words for my wonderful teachers their support.

"Northwood is a fantastic school. They really care about every student."

On average Northwood students achieved over half a grade better than their expected progress in every one of their subjects.

Headteacher Mark Anderson said: "I am so happy for the students. None of this would have happened without the hard work and dedication of the students themselves, combined with the support they’ve had from their teachers and parents.

"I am proud of each and every student."

Girls from St Helen’s School in Northwood celebrated the school’s best-ever results at GCSE.

Almost 60 per cent of all grades awarded were A*s, while 88 per cent of grades were A*s or As, exceeding the school’s previous record.

More than half the year group were awarded exclusively A* and A grades, while nine girls achieved a clean sweep of A*s in all their subjects.

Headteacher Dr Mary Short said: "St Helen's is a school where girls are empowered to excel in all areas of the curriculum, and these record results are a rich reward for their exceptional hard work.

"The study skills they have developed, their enthusiastic and inquisitive approach to their subjects, and the unswerving support and encouragement they have received from their parents and the school’s first-class team of teachers and tutors have all contributed to this unprecedented success.”

Continuing the trend of previous years, St Helen’s girls achieved top grades across the whole spectrum of academic subjects.

The Salvatorian College congratulated its Year 11 Pupils on their excellent GCSE results.

Overall, the provisional pass rate of pupils achieving five A* to C grades, including English and Maths, was 74 per cent, an improvement of 15 per cent on the previous year.
