NORTH London students have achieved 'outstanding GCSE results this year.

Students at the Compton School in Summers Lane, Finchley, have a lot to celebrate as 57 gained 5 A* and A grades.

An incredible 40% of English literature students at Compton School achieved A* and A grades.

Blessie Simbol and Amir Razak were among the school’s high achievers.

Blessie received A and A* grades and A*distinction, and said: “I had some idea of what I would get, I am very happy with my results.”

She is hoping to study five subjects at A-level, including further maths and English literature.

Amir achieved 10 A*grades, and said: "This is amazing, I am relieved. I don’t know what I’m going to do to celebrate, I have not thought that far ahead yet.”

Amir will go on to study for his A-levels in Highgate sixth form.

Amy Phillips achieved A*s As and a C grades, and said: “I am happy with my results, I was expecting more B grades.”

The Compton School head teacher Ann Marie Mulkerins, said: “We are absolutely delighted. We are up on last year by 1%, as we were estimated at 75% of students to achieve A* - C grades but we are at 76% this year.

"Of all the 1,600 exams taken, 4% of students have gained A* and A grades. All the students have done extremely well."

Finchley’s Brampton College in Lodge Road, achieved its best ever GCSE results today with 30% A* , 62% A*/A and 86% A*-B

The College excelled in subjects such as Geography and Art which had 100% A*/A grades, and English Literature which had 100% A*-B grades.

Noon Abbas has achieved 6A* 2A grades. She will continue at Brampton College to study her A-levels.

She said: “I am very happy and relieved right now, my hard work has paid off! I am now motivated to start my A Level course, here at Brampton.”

Student Pippa Hussain received 7 A* grades, and her parents thanked the College and said they were overwhelmed.

Susan Young, Head of GCSEs at Brampton, said: "Overall, the GCSE results are amazing. They reflect a year of hard work and determination from students and staff alike.

"The students have benefited from small classes, experienced and caring teachers and individual attention. It should also be noted that we are non-selective and students come to Brampton for a number of reasons (having lived abroad, having been ill, unhappy where they have been) so these results really are an outstanding achievement."
