A new Leyton pub is set to open its doors next month, following a £300,000 refurbishment of a 140-year old bar.
Pepper’s Ghost on the site of Shoe Laces sports bar in High Road, will relaunch on Thursday, September 8 after a four-week refit.
Owned by pub operator, Punch, the bar will be remodelled to create a larger space for punters and redecorated.
Pepper’s Ghost, named after Leyton-born illusionist John Henry Pepper, will also stage entertainment including a film club and live music.
A pub has stood at the site since the 1870s and was known as the Prince of Wales until 1997.
Tom Langridge, Area Operations Manager for Punch said: “When it re-opens, Pepper’s Ghost will proudly offer all the ingredients that go into making a great London pub: fantastic food, real ales and live entertainment, all within a modern yet welcoming setting.
“We feel confident that the new look will prove a big hit and hope that it will help to encourage more people not only into the pub itself but to surrounding local businesses too.”
