Woolwich Arsenal station has been ‘renamed’ in a mock sign, as commuters continue to vent their frustration over the smell.

The picture by Tim Rose has renamed the station Woolwich Arse Smell in a nod to the unpleasant stench which blights the area.

The recent warm weather has only made things worse, as commuters waiting on platforms are forced to breathe in the rotten egg-like smell.

And train passengers who pass through Woolwich Arsenal station get a stinky surprise as the doors open.

Recently rail users took to social media in a bid to end the stink, calling on Southeastern and Network Rail to finally sort it out.

Last month commuter Kim Burrows, 25, said she had noticed the smell for the past two weeks.

She told News Shopper: “The past couple of days combined with the heat has been awful.

“There doesn't seem to be anything happening to find the problem and solve it so instead every morning we have to stand and inhale it.”

She added: “It's really not very pleasant at all.”

Network Rail officers looked into the problem, which was passed back to Southeastern to resolve.

Southeastern has told passengers on social media that station staff are aware and investigating the issue.
