VOLUNTEERS arranged a collection which took in 1,000 tins of food to help feed homeless people in Barnet.

Members of the Rotary Club of Golders Green took turns standing outside Tesco in Brent Cross to ask customers to 'buy a Can for those that Can't'.

Along with the tins collected, the club also collected £150 and will donate it to Homeless Action Barnet to support their work with homeless people in the borough.

Chair of community service for the club Satnam Singh said: “We are absolutely astounded by people’s generosity and really thankful.

“We just hope we can help to do more to help the people who need it most going forward.”

The club will be holding another collection outside Sainsbury’s in Golders Green on Saturday September 3.

Homeless Action Barnet, and the homeless people they help, thanked the Rotary Club for their successful collection.
