A GREENFORD beautician has regained the title of Hanwell’s Carnival Queen.

Contestants played the game of thrones at Hanwell Community Centre, where Lovely Vaid, 31, was named queen for the second time.

She will lead the procession at this year's carnival on Saturday June 18, joined by eight-year-olds Alex Chuddek and Holly Fitgerald-Munro who were named as prince and princess of London’s oldest carnival.

Mrs Vaid, who also won the contest in 2014, said: “I like to help the community. I really enjoyed the day and wanted to be involved in carnival again.”

The 1995 queen Jo Evans judged the contest along with councillors Harbhajan Kaur Dheer, Ranjit Dheer and Joanna Camadoo.

The main thing the judges were looking for was a real community spirit.

Coun Camadoo said: “There was a great range of candidates, all very enthusiastic.”

The regal champions will be driven in a Railton car, built by Hanwell based Coachcraft, is believed to date back to 1934 and be one of only two left in the world.

Alex, of Oaklands Primary School in Hanwell, said: “I’m looking forward to the parade and waving to all the people.”

While Alex said he loves the people of Hanwell, his counterpart looks forward to the dog show every year.

St Mark's Primary School pupil Holly said: “I'm looking forward to seeing all the people smiling.”
