Parents, teachers and students gave up their Saturdays, and dedicated their time to the event. Spruce up Saturday is a fun occasion, were we give back to our school by giving it some TLC. The students worked by repainting halls and classroom, outdoor areas were replenished and flowers were planted.

The whole event was led by ‘PET (Providing excellence together), a major parent-led fundraising campaign to ensure that ‘Newstead Wood School can continue to offer an outstanding education in the current financial climate of reduced Government funding.’

With hard work and dedication from the parent-led fundraising campaign, At Newstead first ever spruce up Saturday a whopping 150 people attended. Even with the help of many local businesses backing the event: Iceland, Jewson, Wickes, Topps Tiles and many others. It brought the school and the wider community closer together for a fun day of DIY.

With hard work from students and teachers the school has beautifully been refurbished and walking into Newstead with fresh flowers and newly painted walls, gives the school a new look.

Spruce up Saturday is a fun and lax community event that everyone can enjoy. And that many student say its ‘really fun, and want t give back to school that it has so generously given to them’.
