Shoppers, retailers and staff at St Anns and St George's shopping centres raised more than £2,500 during a charity bike-a-thon.

For the second consecutive year, the St Anns Shopping Centre team competed against St George’s Shopping Centre and Fitness First in a test of endurance to raise funds for the St Mark’s Hospital Foundation on Saturday, March 19.

The teams battled it out at St Anns shopping centre, cycling the distance from John O’Groats to St Anns, Harrow, which equates to 1,218km, with St Anns reigning victorious.

St Anns centre manager, Pieter Strombeck, said: "The charity day was a great success and the team thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

"It was great to work alongside St George’s again. On behalf of myself and the centre team I would like to thank all of our retailers for their contributions and our shoppers for all of their support through donations to this local cause."

Along side the Bike-A-Thon, the centre also hosted a day of free family fun with charity auctions, children’s entertainers, and an auction and tombola in partnership with volunteers from St Mark’s Hospital Foundation.

Mr Strombeck added: "Thank you to the generous people of Harrow for your kind donations and cheering on the two teams, the centre raised £2,500 and footfall was up 5.2 per cent against the previous Saturday.

"The atmosphere throughout the entire event was energetic and created a real sense of community spirit."
