Sassy Essex singer Lydia Lucy wowed the nation with her powerhouse performance on The Voice at the weekend and was then left ‘speechless’ when she made it through to the live shows.

The diminutive 22-year-old with the massive vocal range earned a place in the final 12 with her rendition of Taylor Swift’s I Knew You Were Trouble.

“I was so nervous,” the auburn-haired songstress says of her performance, “but the music really took over me and I hope my passion shone through.”

Lydia, who was born and raised in Romford and is very proud to be from Essex, fell in love with singing when she entered a talent contest aged six and won.

The former pupil of Romford schools Parklands Junior and Marshalls Park, Sylvia Young Theatre School and Urdang Academy has sung at venues all across Essex and previously attempted to find music stardom in 2013 on The X Factor.

The Michael Jackson fan decided to give it another shot on The Voice this year and says: “I feel like it’s an amazing opportunity for me to the the word what kind of music artist I want to be and I felt like the coaches this year would really get my style.”

She originally earned her place on Team Will in the Blinds by singing Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson’s hit Trouble - maybe she is trying to tell us something with her song choices?

She then battled it out against Irene Alano-Rhodes and won, singing Aerosmith’s Cryin’.

“The battles was the hardest part for me," says Lydia, “as I wasn’t just relying on myself. I never knew what the other person could do at the last minute it made me feel very nervous.”

On Sunday will.i.am choose her to be in his final three and she says: “I was speechless. Literally over the moon. So happy.”

She will now battle it out in the quarter finals and when asked who her biggest rival is says: “Everyone is so unique I’d say, so I wouldn’t say anyone. I get along really well with everyone too, I love them all.”

Her coolest moment on the show so far was when Will called her ‘dope’ and she says of the possibility of winning: “It would mean the world and make my dreams come true. I hope I can do it.”

Lydia will be going up against 11 other singers including Hornsey’s Vangelis Polydorou and fellow Essex singer Jordan Gray from Tilbury.
