Enfield Council has launched a new group aiming to tackle hate crime.
The Enfield Hate Crime Forum launched on Friday and will focus on tackling all verbal and physical abuse perpetrated because of the victim’s race, faith, gender, disability or sexuality.
Campaigners from the council, the Metropolitan Police Service, Enfield Racial Equality Council, the Enfield LGBT Network, the Enfield Faith Forum, Enfield Disability Action and Victim Support are all part of the group.
Cabinet member for community organisations and culture Yasemin Brett said: “Hate crime has no place in our communities and we all have a part to play in challenging it.
"We want to give people the confidence to come forward and tell us if they have either been a victim of, or witnessed, such behaviour.
“We will not tolerate small minded bigotry that results in people being abused because of moronic, outdated prejudices."
Residents can report hate crime by ringing police on 101, the council on 020 8379 4612 or through the new Self Evident app which is available to download from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
