RESULTS of a survey have shown Enfield has the second lowest number of young smokers in London.

According to the study by Office for National Statistics staff, only 13.6 per cent of adults in the borough smoked.

A What About Youth poll for 2014/15 also showed only 3.5 per cent of 15-year-olds are lighting up in Enfield, which is significantly lower than the London average of 6.1 per cent.

As part of National No Smoking Day on March 9, courses to help kick the habit will be on offer at the Palace Garden shopping centre.

These include cessation classes, nicotine patches and health advice.

Cllr Nneka Keazor, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for public health and sport, said there are 20 per cent fewer smokers now in the borough than there were three years ago.

She said: “Our campaigning to get people to stop and also to prevent young people starting to smoke continues.

“By no longer smoking they will save money, feel fitter, enjoy food more, live longer and have less disease.”

“Come and see us on No Smoking Day, join in the fun and regain your health and your wealth.”
