A pensioner murdered in Plumstead has been described as an ‘absolute sweetie’ by shocked neighbours.

Priscilla Edwards, 78, was found dead in her home in Kirkham Street shortly after 8.30pm on Sunday (February 21).

A post-mortem examination held at Greenwich mortuary gave the cause of death as neck injuries.

Her daughter, Regina Edwards, 52, has been charged with her murder.

Edwards, from Plumbridge Street, Greenwich, will appear before the Old Bailey tomorrow (February 25).

Appearing via video link at Bromley Magistrates’ Court yesterday (February 23), she remained silent throughout the hearing, appointing her solicitor Greg Stewart to speak on her behalf.

MORE TOP STORIES Wearing a purple long-sleeved top, Edwards kept her head bowed as Mr Stewart confirmed his client’s name, age and address, but gave no indication of plea.

Several women – believed to be family members – watched from the public gallery.

Back at the scene, teary eyed friends were seen leaving the house where the mother-of-two, who lived there for more than two decades, was found.

Multiple police vehicles and an ambulance filled the street after the discovery was made, and a section of the road was cordoned off as forensics officers searched the house.

A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, described her as an ‘absolute sweetie’.

Another said Ms Edwards lived alone and was visited by one of her two daughters who came around once a week to look after her.

She is said to have been a retired midwife who worked at the old Greenwich District Hospital.

An old colleague, who did not wish to give her name, added she and fellow midwives visited the pensioner when they could.

She said: "She retired more than 10 years ago but we kept on coming to visit her.

“She was OK but she was alone.

"We are sorry as we hadn't been to see her for some time. We last saw her about two or three months ago.

“She was a nice person."

Edwards was remanded in custody after yesterday’s hearing.
