A four year-old girl and her friends have given up their teddy bears and baked cakes to raise money for Sport Relief.

Four year-old Tamiyah Barbour and her best friend Savannah Nicholls, five, sold home-made cakes and held a teddy bear raffle on Thursday, February 11 and Friday, February 12, raising £54 for Sport Relief.

After Tamiyah’s grandmother Angela Ward died in October 2014, the youngster wanted to say thank you to people who helped support the family with donations to pay for the funeral costs.

Delicious lemon cakes, cupcakes, mini rolls and sponge cakes were snapped up by parents and children at Bond Primary School in Mitcham.

Tamiyah’s mother Jessica Edwards, who helped organise the event, said: “The whole thing just started as collecting a little money for her sponsored walk but she just wanted to do so much more to help people because of how people helped us when mum passed.

"The cake sale and raffle was all her idea, she even gave up some of her teddies to raise more money.

“I'm just so proud of the little girl she is and the women she is becoming. I never ever expected her to be this involved and want to help as much as she has.”

Headteacher Despo Stevens said: “One of our pupils, Tamiyah Barbour and her mother Jessica Edwards with a bit of help from their friends, Heather Thomas and Savannah Nicholls, have been instrumental in supporting this cause by baking and selling delicious cakes to the Bond community after school as well as raffling teddies. So far they have raised £54 in just one sale.”

The school will host a sponsored walk on Friday, March 11 on Mitcham Common.

Tamiyah also has a website which has raised £120 for the charity. Sponsor Tamiyah at https://www.gofundme.com/TamiyahsChallenge
