Kingston residents have been warned to stay on the lookout after suspicions were raised a bogus trader has been handing out leaflets in the borough.

Police and Kingston council trading standards issued the warning after they found suspicious looking leaflets offering gardening services at discounted prices for senior citizens.

The leaflets are similar to brochures being reported to trading standards officers across the south of England.

Councillor Cathy Roberts, cabinet member for trading standards, said: “If residents are thinking about employing a tradesperson, the best recommendation is not to take unsolicited leaflets for such work through their letterboxes at face value.

“They should also be very wary of giving work to people turning up uninvited on their doorstep.”
