BUDDING chefs were put through their paces at a regional semi-final of the Rotary Young Chef Competition.

The cooks impressed the judges at the North West London Area semi-final, held at Stanmore’s Park High School, last Wednesday (January 13).

Miranda Collins, from Kingsbury High School, scooped first place, and will now compete in the London District Finals.

The two runners up were Alexandra Sorka and Shania Mallick, both from Canons High School.

The competitors were nominated by their school's food and technology departments.

They had to prepare a main course and dessert for two people, costing no more than £10, and within two hours.

Barnet Mayor Councillor Mark Shooter came to show his support, along with his counterparts in Brent and Harrow, Councillor Lesley Jones and Councillor Krishan Suresh respectively.

Rotarians from Edgware and Stanmore, Golders Green and Northwick Park, along with the headteacher of Park High School and the London Rotary District Governor, Toni Finkel, also came to cheer on the young cooks.

The judging panel consisted of James Harkin, from Alpine Restaurant in Bushey, Terry Farr, from Friends Restaurant in Pinner and Simon Greenfield, from the Institute of Directors in London.
