Drivers should expect delays, after a car burst into flames on the A2 at Falconwood this afternoon (December 13).

East Rochester Way was partially closed eastbound because of the car fire, which was between the Falconwood Interchange and the Danson Interchange at around 1pm.

Witness Abbie told News Shopper: "At about 1pm, two fire engines were just arriving at the scene.

"There was so much smoke - I spotted the smoke as we joined the A2 and the flames just got bigger and bigger.

"The car was burnt out completely."

Both lanes were closed for half an hour, whilst London Fire Brigade extinguished the flames.

Then lane two (of two) re-opened ,,whilst the first lane remained closed due to recovery work and fuel spillage from the car.

All restrictions were lifted at 3pm.

Congestion was to the junction with the A205 at Westhorne Avenue. Traffic is still slow moving.
