To celebrate Guy Fawkes Gun powder plot explosion, The Rotary Fireworks were back at Chislehurst Recreation Ground! Chislehurst Rotary was delighted to return to Chislehurst Recreation Ground this year, and the popularity of this community venue was shown by the enormous number of people who attended. The spectacular fireworks display, which was supplied by Phoenix Fireworks, was held on Saturday 7th November in Chislehurst’s Recreation Ground, where there was a children’s funfair for under 12's, hog roasts and stalls which all started from 6pm. There was also a fantastic musical theatre performance from the Glenlyn Academy, which was performed at 6.30pm. All profits made by this fantastic event were given to local charities and other good causes. Last year’s donations included organisations such as Bromley Womens’ Aid ,Child Aid ,Wave Trust ,British Heart Foundation ,Bromley Mind ,Asthma UK ,Coopers Technology College (Interact) ,Marjorie McClure School, Royal British Legion, NSPCC, MS Society, Carers’ Bromley, Bromley Mencap, Young Epilepsy, St Cecilia’s Cheshire Home and Bowel Cancer. With the money raised Chislehurst Rotary shall be able to continue supporting numerous local charities as well as sensibly chosen international projects. Every penny raised is donated to charities – all Rotarians are volunteers.

Gates opened at 6pm, and the firework conundrum started at 7.30pm Tickets could be purchased in advance or on the gate. Advanced prices were fantastic, as Adults came to £6.00 and Children 4 - 14 years old came to £3, and a family deal only costing £15.00 (2 adults + 2 children) At the gate prices for Adults were £7.00 and Children 4 - 14 years old came £4.00. Children who were under 14 must have been accompanied by an adult.

‘The weather was kind – after a wet and windy start to the day. Just under 7,000 people attended the event and it was a huge success. There were no injuries: Red Cross only had one visitor’ said the Fireworks Chairman of the CHISLEHURST ROTARY CLUB. Local business and restaurants were also pleased the event had returned to the centre of Chislehurst.

I would like to thank The Fireworks Chairman for answering all my questions about the display, and in hope to see the fireworks for many more years to come!
