A Farringtons Firework Night by Lillie Baker Farringtons School

When I walked through the school gates, the excitement was immediately apparent. Children, teenagers and adults were all filing into the hall to get some drinks, warmth and most importantly sweets. There was a huge variety of food on offer such as a cotton candy stall, a popcorn stall and a hot dog and burger stand. Many people were crammed into the hall and sitting at tables, wondering if the fireworks were going to be as good as last year. People from other schools came too, drawn in by the sweet smell of popcorn and the loud laughs of the excited children. Flashing headbands, lightsabers and bracelets were for sale, all funded by the fabulous FPA (Farringtons Parents Association).

At seven o’clock, everyone swarmed out onto the field and netball courts which provided the best views. All huddled up for warmth, families and friends stood together looking up expectantly at the empty sky. Finally, the first firework rose up into the sky with a bang and everyone oohed at the amazing colours that filled the sky. Cameras were the next thing out, as the majority wanted to capture the magnificent array of fireworks that were lighting up the grounds. When the fireworks stopped, the crowd applauded almost as loud as the fireworks and wished that it had never ended. Some people stayed outside to savour the smokey scents whilst others stayed inside to get warm again and buy some last minute sweets.

But by the end of it, every person there will remember that  fantastic Farringtons Firework night.
