One of the country’s leading choirs is launching a 12-hour sponsored singing marathon to raise funds for a major recording project.

On Saturday 28 November, Crouch End Festival Chorus will become the 12-Hour Choir, singing some of the greatest choral works, from 9 am right through until 9 pm.

The all-day event will be held at Muswell Hill Baptist Church, on Dukes Avenue.

Music director David Temple will be conducting throughout the 12 hours, which will be punctuated by brief solo and chamber music sessions by Chorus members.

The event is part of a campaign to raise some £30,000 towards the cost of a new recording of Bach’s St John Passion. This will be the first recording in English for 40 years.

Visitors will be encouraged to drop in and listen at any time during the 12-hour session.

The works to be covered include pieces by Bach, Elgar, Beethoven, Vaughan Williams, and Fauré.

For a contribution of £10, anybody can join the choir in singing Handel’s Messiah in the afternoon between 3.45 and 5.45pm.

The choir, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, has gained a national reputation, and has worked with well-known artists including Ray Davies of The Kinks, Noel Gallagher, and Andrea Bocelli.
