A Lewisham man has been sentenced for stopping to shop at Primark using a disabled badge that was not his.

Pasquale De Blasi, of Beckenham Hill Road, was caught using his father’s blue badge while at the clothing shop in Bromley.

The badge was confiscated from De Blasi in June, and he gave a range of excuses as to why he was using it.

When interview under caution, he said he was returning a jacket to Primark for his father.

He claimed did not know he could not use it without his father present.

But the initial bodycam recording from the traffic warden proved otherwise, capturing De Blasi on film saying he in fact did know his father had to be with him to use the badge.

He was ordered to pay £3,000 prosecution costs, a criminal court charge of £150 and a victim surcharge of £15.

Bromley counillor Lydia Buttinger, executive assistant for environment, said: “I am disappointed that the Blue Badge Scheme was so flagrantly abused in this way, in a busy town centre.

“This is a classic example of a few individuals acting selfishly, undermining a very important scheme for all those genuine users.”

A blue badge is for people with mobility issues and allows them to park in certain areas, often closer to where they need to be.

Misusing a blue badge is a criminal offence which carried a £1,000 fine.
