A Surbiton special needs school has continued its outstanding streak having been described as a “calm and happy place”.

Ofsted inspectors who visited Dysart School at the start of the academic year in September noted that headteacher Leigh Edser, who took over about two years ago, had contributed to further improvements at the already successful school.

The report said: “Staff show exceptional respect for the children and a determination for them to make progress. You and your team have set high expectations for pupils’ safety, learning and progress.

“Staff follow your lead through interesting and age-appropriate activities that engage pupils well.”

The report, published last month, continued in the same footsteps as the last inspection in January 2012, which also found the school to be outstanding.

Mrs Edser, who has worked at the school for about 10 years, said: “I’m really proud of my staff as they work really hard with our children, and equally proud of our children as they achieve such great things in their life.

“We are also equally grateful for our community and the work they do with us, and how welcoming they are with our children when we go out and about.

"It will be equally important that people know the school will not become complacent and will continue to develop.”

The school now takes 80 students and was given permission to build an extension in Langley Road in February this year.
