An arrest has been made after schools in Lewisham warned parents a man was "encouraging children to come to his car and take sweets and money" in the Downham area.

On Tuesday (November 3) a letter was sent to parents of children at Ladywell's Prendergast Primary School, Manwood Road, and Haberdashers' Aske's Knights Academy in Launcelot Road, Downham saying the man was driving a white Mercedes.

It read: "We have been informed today by a local school that a man driving a white Mercedes car has been seen in the Downham area encouraging children to come to his car and take sweets and money.

"This was verified by the local police.

"Whilst we do not wish to alarm you or your children we would encourage you to be extra vigilant."
