PC Colin Chappell and Sergeant Tony Marshall from Kingston police gave a presentation on scams and crime prevention at the Star and Garter home in Upper Brighton Road.

Residents of the care home had been excited for about a month running up to the visit on October 22, as five police dogs also came along.

An excitable 11-week-old Daisy was among the dogs who popped in to the home.

Some residents were not able to get downstairs so Daisy went to them.

One elderly lady, Muriel Hiorns, has been at Star and Garter for a few months. Nurses told the officers she is normally quiet and does not show much emotion.

She unexpectedly sat up and beamed when Daisy was put on her lap in bed causing her nurse to burst into tears.

Sgt Marshall said: "It was a great privilege to be able to talk to the residents of the Star and Garter. They were a great audience and asked questions at every opportunity.

"I was shocked to see Muriel's reaction and I would like to thank the Star and Garter for having me, it was a great opportunity and something I will remember for the rest of my life."
