A father-of-six, former Old Malden councillor and “strong family man” committed to serving his community, has died.
Mick Amson, who was made an honorary alderman last year, died aged 75, following a stroke on Sunday, October 18.
Kingston Council leader Kevin Davis said: “Mick was a strong family man, committed to his local community and the people he helped as a councillor.
“He was a reliable voice in the Conservative Group.
“I know he will be missed by his very close family and I hope that they will find some comfort that the Kingston Conservative family is in mourning alongside them, at this difficult time.”
Mr Amson first ran for Kingston Council in 1994 and was a councillor until 2002, when he lost his seat in Old Malden.
Four years later the Tory politician successfully ran in 2006 and again in 2010.
He lived in New Malden with his wife Sylvia and had worked for supermarket chain Tesco before becoming a councillor.
Alexandra ward Councillor Ian George said on Twitter: “Very sorry to hear of the death of honorary alderman and former Kingston councillor Mick Amson.
“A diamond geezer if ever there was one.”
