Traffic was brought to a standstill after an ambulance reportedly lost a wheel in the middle of a roundabout above the A3.
People driving past said they could see a broken down ambulance at the Ace of Spades roundabout on the A309 going towards Hinchley Wood.
One witness said a wheel had fallen off the vehicle leaving it stranded at about 4.20pm, but just after 5pm it had cleared and traffic was once again on the move.
