A young woman was left "petrified" after a group of rowdy rugby fans attacked her car as she drove through Battersea in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Laura Louise Morris, 21, was driving her silver Ford Fiesta in St John's Hill, when a group of about 20 men rushed her car and attempted to form a rugby scrum.

Miss Morris's father, James Morris, who lives in Dunstan Road, said his daughter's car was damaged during the attack, which took place shortly before 1am.

He said: "I was in a pub in Earlsfield and she was coming to pick me and my wife up when these 20 blokes attacked her car at the traffic lights.

"They came out of the Grand, where there was a big rugby event on, and tried to basically scrum her car.

"It damaged the front of the car and she was absolutely petrified - police have the CCTV and many passers-by took pictures and videos."

The Clapham Grand nightclub had been screening the England vs Australia Rugby World Cup match earlier on Saturday night.

Mr Morris added that Miss Morris has been left "petrified" by the ordeal and has since reported it to the police.

He said: "She is absolutely petrified - she is only 21-years-old and works nights at Waitrose.

"My wife had to take her to work the other day, she was so affected.

"She actually called the police while in the car and they said they were aware of the incident, because they had picked it up on CCTV, but that they couldn't get there in three minutes.

"After she managed to get away, she just wanted to go home but we reported it at Lavender Hill police station yesterday afternoon.

"The police don't seem interested, they said they will look into it but aren't sure what they can do."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed an incident of highway disruption and criminal damage had been reported to them.
