A London punter has left a bookie shaken and stirred after trying to put a massive bet on Radiohead performing the theme song for new James Bond movie Spectre.

Betting has been suspended at William Hill after a Middlesex-based gambler attempted to place a £15,000 online wager on Thom Yorke and co being chosen over the likes of Ellie Goulding and Sam Smith for the coveted 007 tune.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: "The first gamble of the day was Ellie Goulding and punters were backing her as if she already had the gig but just as we were thinking of pulling the plug we had a load of bets for Radiohead including one customer who asked to place a £15,000 bet on the band.

"There seem to be all kinds of rumours and the plot has had more twists and turns than a classic Bond tale."

He said an announcement is expected “any day now”.

Ellie Goulding has supposedly dropped hints that she has recorded the Bond song

Asked whether Radiohead are indeed singing the Bond theme, a spokesman for the band said: "We've got no comment on it."

The last odds from William Hill on who the Spectre singer will be were: 6/4 Radiohead, 2/1 Sam Smith, 4/1 Ellie Goulding, 5/1 Adele, 14/1 Lana del Rey, 14/1 Lorde, 33/1 Coldplay.

Bookmaker Coral has also suspended betting on who will sing the theme song – but after a surge of bets for Goulding rather than Radiohead.

The choice of Radiohead for the Bond song would be an interesting one – we reckon they would come up with a really cheery upbeat song in their usual style.
