Work has started on a new eco park just across the borough border to treat thousands of tonnes of waste.

The first spade was driven into the ground at the site in Shepperton. When completed, the Charlton Lane site will treat 55,000 tonnes of black bag waste and 40,000 tonnes of food waste every year.

The development has faced fierce criticism from campaigners of Spelthorne Against the Eco Park - with people from the group warning Elmbridge residents about the possibility of breaches heading towards the borough.

It will take about two years to build and when running will supply energy to the national grid.

Drop-in sessions will be held at the Sunbury Golf Centre, Charlton Lane, on Saturday, July 11, from 11am to 4pm.
