A woman was "disgusted" after her young son chomped his way through a mouldy sausage roll, purchased at Tesco in Dartford.

Sarah Lockwood, of Dawson Drive, Hextable bought the Wall's pork snack in the Esso petrol station in Dartford Road on Tuesday morning (July 9).

Her two-year-old boy, Regan, was halfway through eating it when the grim discovery was made.

The 27-year-old told News Shopper: "My little boy was in the car - he was hungry so I bought it for him.

"He was eating his way through it and kept saying 'yuck, yuck, yuck'.

"I took it off him and took the pastry off and saw there was a big mould spot on the meat. I was really disgusted.

"I couldn't believe it - I did a double take to make sure it was what I had seen.

"I swung the car round and went back."

Mrs Lockwood headed straight back to the Tesco and spoke to the manager.

She said: "It was the day of its sell by date so surely it should have been marked down or reduced.

"At least people should have been made aware of that.

"All they did was give me £2 back.

"I spoke to customer complaints later on and they gave me a £5 Tesco voucher.

"I was really angry. I didn't know if it was going to make my son ill.

"Now I don't want to go into Tesco, if they are not checking the quality of their products."

A Tesco spokeswoman said: "We have extremely high standards for the products we put on our shelves so we were disappointed to hear of this incident.

"We understand it was distressing for Mrs Lockwood and her son and we have apologised.

"We’ll pass information about the incident to the branded manufacturer so they can investigate."
