Around 120 firefighters tackled a fire at a warehouse in Perivale, west London, that could be seen for miles around.

The blaze in Wadsworth Road started shortly before 7pm and took almost five hours to get under control.

Crews are expected to be at the scene for some time damping down hotspots.

Around 30 people left the building before London Fire Brigade arrived and there are no reports of any injuries.

All of the roof and the first floor of the two-storey building was alight and plumes of smoke were seen high in the sky, including over Wembley Stadium.

Station manager Jeff Lisle who was at the scene said: "Crews worked very hard in difficult conditions.

"Firefighters used aerial ladder platforms to tackle the fire from numerous vantage points to prevent the blaze spreading to neighbouring warehouses.

“This isn’t a residential area but the smoke was travelling quite a distance so we advised locals to keep windows and doors shut."
