Traffic at the busy Bank junction was brought to a standstill this morning by a protest following the death of a young newlywed cyclist killed in a lorry crash.
Ying Tao, 26, died after she was in collision with a tipper truck during Monday's morning rush hour while she was on her way to work at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
It was tragically the eighth cycling death on the capital's roads so far this year. Seven of the fatalities have involved heavy goods vehicles.
Today hundreds of cyclists protested by blocking traffic at the junction that is home to the Bank of England and a large Tube station at the heart of the City.
London Cycling Campaign called the protest, which lasted about 15 minutes.
It included a minute's silence and calls for segregated space for cyclists on London's roads and the removal of dangerous lorries from the city's streets.
The protest also marked the death of Clifton James, 60, who was killed in a collision with a car in Harrow in the early hours of Sunday.
