Fallen trees at Forest Hill caused chaos for rail passengers across south London, this morning (June 2).

London Overground, Southern and Thameslink services are all disrupted after a tree blocked all lines and damaged a power rail, which needed to be repaired.

But once rail workers had cleared the first tree from the line a second fell.

Southern Rail posted on Twitter: "#ForestHill another tree coming down, ALL LINES BLOCKED AGAIN."

All lines have now reopened but delays are expected to continue until at least 3pm.

Journeys between Sydenham and London Bridge or Canada Water may still be delayed by up to 45 minutes.

London Overground services between Crystal Palace or West Croydon and New Cross Gate are being delayed by up to 15 minutes.

Southern services on other routes may be affected due to the displacement of trains and crew.

East Croydon train station was exit only this morning due to overcrowding caused by the disruption.

New Cross station was also jam-packed and Southeastern asked customers to try Lewisham station instead.

Commuter Lorraine Forrest told News Shopper: "Passengers were extremely frustrated this morning as the doors to New Cross station were barred shut.

"Passengers who would ordinarily have travelled from Honor Oak Park, Brockley and New Cross Gate made their way to New Cross instead, only to find that they could not board the trains running to London Bridge and Cannon Street.

"Some people said that they had been attempting to get into the City for work since 7am.

She said: "It looked like there was abundant space available on Platform C or in the station lobby, where those passengers could have been moved to in order to keep the stairway clear to the other platforms.

"Instead all entry to the station was blocked for 20 minutes, causing many angry customers to call out to staff to let them through, as Southeastern trains were running on time via Platforms A and B."
