Police have released images of eight people wanted in connection with trouble that flared during a protest in central London after the general election.

A total of 15 people were arrested near to Downing Street during the anti-austerity and anti-Tory demonstration on May 9.

Of the arrests, 12 were on suspicion of violent disorder and three for assault on police.

All have been bailed pending further enquires.

One officer was treated at hospital for a suspected dislocated shoulder and a member of police staff also received hospital treatment for a cut lip after being hit by an object.

Three other officers were assaulted but did not require hospital treatment.

A war memorial was vandalised during the protest, with the words ‘Tory scum’ sprayed on it.

Acting Commander Colin Morgan, of the Met Police’s public order command, said: "A number of officers were injured during the disorder and the Women in World War II Memorial was damaged with graffiti.

“I'm urging anyone who recognises these men to come forward and assist us with our investigation."
