It is crunch time Wandsworth. Prospective parliamentary candidates have done all they can to win your votes and now it is time to seal their fate.

Wandsworth Times:

Today thousands of people across the brighter borough will head to polling stations to cast their vote in the general election, selecting the next MPs for Battersea, Putney and Tooting

The press have been in a frenzy trying to predict the outcome of what is sure to be the closest general election in living memory.

Polls suggest a hung parliament is all but a certainty, which will mean days or even weeks of behind-the-scenes negotiations and back-room deals between party leaders.

We will be out on the streets of Wandsworth this morning meeting voters on this important day and hearing what they have to say.

Wandsworth Times:

Here we have pensioners Emily Broaks, 96 tomorrow (left), and Patricia Lock, 90, who just voted at nearest polling station at Battersea Sports Centre.

Mrs Lock said she had voted so many times she could not remember how many in total.

She said: "I think people should vote really - it is their vote. I was saying how different things in other countries are where they vote on Sundays. Why don't we vote on Sundays? I think it's a good idea.

"I don't know who will win. I hope not UKIP. I hope it's not him, I don't want him to get in."

Battersea Sports Centre, which has been the centre of its own political battles in the past year, having been earmarked for closure in 2016, has been transformed into a polling station today.

Wandsworth Times:

We bumped into Wandsworth Mayor, Councillor Stuart Thom, who is visiting polling stations throughout the day.

Speaking outside Battersea Sports Centre polling station he said: "If you want to affect the way your community looks this is the chance you have.

"We can obviously do things during the year but the general election is terribly important. That is the ultimate chance to make a government you want.

"Speaking as the mayor my interest is  encouraging people to come out and vote.

"I do think it will be a high turn out. I've been round a few [polling stations] this morning."

Coun Thom will be the returning officer at tonight's general election count at Wandsworth Town Hall. He will have the job of announcing who has won each of the three seats.

The Wandsworth Guardian will also be live blogging tonight’s events and will keep you up to speed on who your next MPs will be. Keep checking the website for updates.
