A pervert who touched a woman and young girl travelling on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) has been jailed for 10 months.

Peter Mussett, 32, of no fixed address, carried out the assaults on the same evening, September 18 last year.

He was sentenced at Thames Magistrates’ Court having pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual assault.

The court heard how Mussett assaulted the first victim – a 38-year-old woman from Lewisham – as she walked up the stairs at Shadwell DLR station.

Later Mussett indecently touched a 12-year-old girl on two occasions as she travelled home on a DLR train between Limehouse and Westferry.

Detective Inspector John Justice said: “I believe he went out on public transport that evening with the sole purpose of targeting and assaulting women for his own sexual gratification.

“Mussett’s attack on a woman, as she walked up stairs at Shadwell DLR, only stopped when she challenged his behaviour.

“Mussett’s second victim, who was 12 years old at the time, was travelling home on her own when she was assaulted.

“This was understandably an incredibly frightening experience for the young girl.”

Mussett was also sentenced to a seven-year sexual harm prevention order imposing travel restrictions and was also ordered to pay £350 compensation in total to his victims.
