Ever-suffering commuters were this morning hit by the two things that seem guaranteed in London lately – Tube delays and London Bridge problems.

On the Underground there was a fourth consecutive day of disruption.

A signal failure at Tower Hill led to severe delays anti-clockwise on the Circle line and delays between Earl's Court and Westminster on the District line.

It follows on from Monday morning when there were hold-ups on three lines, on Tuesday when there were many hours of problems on the Central line and yesterday when the Bakerloo line was part-suspended.

Today there were also more delays on mainline train services.

A signalling problem between Hayes & Harlington and Southall in west London caused delays in and out of Paddington station.

But the worst problem was again at London Bridge.

There is already disruption due to long-term engineering work, but another signalling problem earlier compounded the situation and led to delays to trains run by Southern.

Some passengers reported being stuck on trains for up to 50 minutes trying to get into London Bridge.

Catherine O'Shea tweeted: "London Bridge station what is the point in you? Could we just change your name to 'Seek Alternative Routes' and save us all some time."

A person called Ellie wrote: "Travelling into London Bridge every day is turning into daily torture."

Sharon Giles tweeted: "London Bridge a travel nightmare."

Georgia Lowe wrote: "40 minutes Brockley to London Bridge. Third time this week. Unacceptable! Now missing £80 train to Liverpool."

There were further problems in south London after a person was hit by a train near Denmark Hill.

This led to delays of up to 60 minutes between Peckham Rye and Victoria and Blackfriars.
