Police investigating the Hatton Garden jewellery raid have released a graphic – along with other dramatic images – showing how they think the heist was carried out.

The vault of a safe deposit company was raided over the Easter weekend, with a gang tunnelling through concrete walls and ransacking 72 security boxes.

Pictures released by Flying Squad detectives show the scene officers found on arrival at the business.

When police were called on April 7 the vault was covered in dust and debris with discarded safety deposit boxes and numerous power tools strewn across the floor, including an angle grinder, concrete drills and crowbars.

A heavy-duty drill had been used to cut through the wall.

A graphic has also been released illustrating how police believe the suspects entered the building and got into the vault between April 2 and 3 and April 4 and 5.

Police say there was no sign of forced entry to the outside of the building, with the thieves disabling the communal lift on the second floor before using the lift shaft to climb down into the basement.

They forced open shutter doors into the basement and bored holes into the vault wall.

There have been no arrests as yet in connection with the investigation.

Of the 72 boxes opened during the burglary, police have only been unable to make contact with six people.
