A lucky shop assistant is celebrating a leap onto the property ladder after winning £80,000 on a scratchcard.

Can Yildiz said he was ‘stunned’ when he won the huge cash prize after spending £5 in the card.

Mr Yildiz, from Chingford, was working in his father’s shop in Tottenham when he decided to try his luck on a National Lottery Tetris scratchcard.

When he won £2 on the first one, the 23-year-old decided to have another go.

“As it was quiet, I decided to buy and play a National Lottery scratchcard for a little bit of excitement," he said.

“I felt like my luck was in but when I started to play the Tetris scratchcard, I didn’t win anything on the first five games.

"It was only when I reached the sixth game and saw that I had three matching symbols I knew I’d won again.

“I didn’t check the size of the win until I had finished the game and I guess I thought it would be another £2.

“When I revealed that it was an £80,000 top prize I was completely stunned.”

Can said time stood still as he stared at the small card before he frantically searched for his phone.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever be on the London property ladder, let alone in my twenties,” he said.

“Now, thanks to that moment of fun, I can start looking for a place in the local area and put that wildest dream into action.”
