The organisation which manages council housing in Waltham Forest has apologised to a grandmother after she narrowly escaped injury when a ceiling in her home collapsed.
Afroze Dhuny, 65, was nearly hit by falling plaster in her kitchen as she washed up on Monday (March 30).
Ascham Homes contractors had been carrying out refurbishment work at the flat in Priory Court,
Walthamstow, but failed to apply the correct bonding agents to the ceiling, it is believed.
The organisation has promised to review its procedures following the incident and promised repairs would be carried out by the weekend.
In a statement, Ascham Homes said: "We sincerely apologise to Ms Dhuny for the upset the collapse may have caused.
"We are working closely with our contractors to repair the ceiling and this work should be completed before the bank holiday weekend.
"We always carry out post inspections after all major works such as kitchen refurbishments to make sure that they are completed to a good standard.
"However, as a result of this incident we will look into reviewing our procedures to ensure that a collapse like this does not happen again."
