Parents had the chance to quiz the shadow children's minister about Labour policies.

Labour MP Alison McGovern met mums and workers at the Burghley Road Playspace in Burghley Road, Turnpike Lane, and discussed childcare, cuts to children’s centres and getting parents back to work.

Childcare costs were the main concern of parents in attendance and Ms McGovern outlined Labour’s plan should the party win power at the General Election on May 7.

Mrs McGovern said: “Families facing a cost of living crisis under David Cameron are coming under increasing pressure from soaring childcare costs, at the same time as falling childcare places and reduced support from this Tory-led Government.

“Labour would extend free childcare for three and four-year-olds with parents in work from 15 to 25 hours, worth £1,500 per child, per year. We would also introduce a legal guarantee of childcare from 8am to 6pm, for parents of primary-aged children, helping families to balance work and family life.”

The charity is run entirely by volunteers and provides a variety of sessions for under-fives to support carers and parents from the surrounding community.
