Schoolchildren from Haringey won gold, silver and bronze medals at the London Youth Games this week.

Tetherdown Primary School, in Southern Road, Muswell Hill and St Thomas More Catholic School, in Glendale Avenue, Wood Green, were among the medals at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Thomas More pupils took home two medals, with the Year 8 girls winning gold in the athletics and the Year 7 boys taking the silver.

Alex Rosen, team manager for the Year 7 boys, said: “It’s fantastic, it’s priceless.

“It’s a springboard to hopefully get them into serious outdoor athletics. We’ve done it for the last ten, twelve years so we see it as really important.”

Tetherdown Primary secured a bronze medal in the Year 5/6 Boys Football, they were unbeaten throughout the day until being edged out by eventual champions Bishop Gilpin from Merton in the semi-final.

Team manager Tom Farmer said: “To be honest we were happy to be here I think it’s such a great thing to come to these kind of competitions.

“We’re really, really happy with the bronze medal.”
