A Sidcup man has been arrested after a man died in a three vehicle crash on the M11 on Friday (March 20).

The incident happened at around 1.40pm in lane two of the northbound carriageway of the motorway, between junctions eight and nine - near the town of Saffron Walden in Essex.

A 47-year-old, from Chatham in Kent, who was driving a black Ford Focus, died at the scene.

Three other people were injured and were taken to hospital for treatment.

The two other vehicles involved were a white VW Transport van and a silver VW Golf.

The driver of the VW Transport van, a 40-year-old man from Sidcup, was taken to hospital for treatment and was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been bailed pending further police enquiries until June 24.

The M11 was closed for a number of hours while the vehicles were recovered and forensic investigation work was carried out.

The road reopened at 7pm.
