Staff and lecturers plan to protest against education funding cuts when Boris Johnson comes to Haringey later this week.
The Mayor of London is coming to the borough to take part in a People’s Question Time debate at the Dominion Centre in High Road, Wood Green on Thursday.
Staff from the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London will protest against the proposed 24 per cent cut in non-apprenticeship adult learning in 2015-16, as well as what the Haringey TUC says are 34 per cent funding cuts and 1 million college places lost since 2009.
Haringey TUC secretary Kieth Flett said: “The government are prioritising funding for apprenticeships but without a guaranteed job at the end of fixed term training, apprenticeships are a licence for exploitation.
“Too many employers are taking on apprentices at £2.73 per hour as cheap labour, with no intention of offering permanent employment.”
The People’s Question Time debate will take place between 7pm and 9pm this Thursday.
