More patients are unhappy with access to their GP in Waltham Forest and Redbridge than anywhere else in London, research has found.

A London Assembly report published survey found 74 per cent of patients in Redbridge and 77 per cent in Waltham Forest reported  an overall positive experience when trying to secure an appointment.

Richmond topped the list with 87 per cent.

A study last year by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found almost a third of GP surgeries in Waltham Forest were putting patients at risk due to poor treatment, with warnings issued to 12 out of 45 practices.

London Assembly member for Redbridge, Roger Evans, said: "The figures seem to reflect that the time it takes to get an appointment is not getting any better and continues to be a long-standing problem in Redbridge.

"The bottom line is we need to employ more GP's.

"We need to train more people in the UK rather than importing them from abroad."

Dr Onkar Sahota AM, chair of the London Assembly Health Committee, said: "London’s population is growing rapidly and we could reach GP crisis point soon.

"To improve patient satisfaction, we desperately need more GPs and better access to them.

"There is clearly a supply and demand issue and something drastic needs to be done before we reach the tipping point."
