Would you be brave enough to propose on Valentine’s Day?

Romantic mechanic Richard Giles popped the question when he and girlfriend Melanie Gordon were 300ft above the River Thames last Saturday 14.

The couple were flying high in an Emirates Air Line cable car, which Richard, 29, had hired privately, when he shocked Melanie by getting down on one knee.

His new fiancée said: “Richard pulled off a proposal beyond my wildest dreams.”

The 34-year-old teacher added: “It was the most perfect moment - just us, up in the air, surrounded by the awe of the London skyline and with beautiful love songs serenading us.

“It is a moment we will remember forever.”

The couple, who live on Valley View in Greenhithe, were treated to Emirates Air Line’s romantic package with complimentary chocolates and love songs playing.

The newly engaged couple then enjoyed the sunset, which Richard had planned his proposal to coincide with.

Melanie said: “We had a hug and a kiss. And I had a couple of tears. It was really beautiful.”
