The families of Charlie Carver and Joe Fitton, who died in a crash in Meopham last week, have paid tribute.

The incident happened in Harvel Road, between Whitepost Lane and Timber Bank, at 7.10pm on Thursday February 12.

Charlie and Joe, both 18, were in a silver Rover 25 which crashed into a grey Skoda Superb travelling in the opposite direction.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman in her 20s, also in the Rover and named locally as Rebecca Sharp, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Kings College Hospital.

Both Charlie and Joe attended Wrotham School and lived in Vigo.

A statement from Charlie Carver's family said: "We have lost Charlie in the most horribly tragic way imaginable.

"He will always be a much loved son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin and leaves behind a huge space within our hearts and lives.

"One of a kind, loving and caring and always a constant source of pride that he was ours.

"We know that everyone who knew Charlie shares our pain so we ask for privacy and understanding for our family, his friends and our local community at this time to allow us all time to grieve whilst we try to come to terms with our loss."

A statement from Joe Fitton's family said: "Joe. A loving son, an incredible brother and the best friend anyone could have.

"There are no words to encapsulate the sheer joy and happiness Joe brought to so many.

"A sense of humour that brought a smile to every face, a brilliant young man with great ambition, an amazing array of friends and a heart filled to the brim with the deepest love for everyone.

"His departure has torn a hole in our hearts, but he has replaced that hole by giving us the ability to keep smiling through these unbearable events. Which is exactly what he would want us to do.

"He lives on in every one of us and we will never forget how brightly his light shone in life, as it will continue to do so in death. It's not goodbye, Joe, it's goodnight. We will stay strong for you as your imprint on this world has changed all of us for the better.

"The memories you have left us are irreplaceable, and we will deeply cherish those memories until the day we are all finally re-united together in eternity. Rest tight knowing everyone is thinking of you Joe. We all love you so much."
