Footballers will play their next match in style after a grant from a power company.

UK Power Networks gave Potters Bar Utd under-eights £250 as part of its Team Sports Awards, which will be spent on new bibs, balls and training equipment.

Lisa O’Connor, who works in the connections department at the UK Power Networks offices in Darkes Lane, Potters Bar, applied for the grant.

Her son Harry, seven, plays in the under-eights team which trains twice a week at the Dame Alice Owens School’s astro turf.

She said: “Harry joined the team in January last year. It’s a great football club with fantastic coaches, Atanas Ivanov and Graeme Blatch, who are excellent with the boys.

“During the past 12 months the teams have come on really well and are now winning the majority of their matches. This money is fantastic and will be a huge help to the club.”
