People in Gravesham are set to see an increase in council tax.

The proposed increase of 1.97 per cent represents a rise of £3.51 per year on a Band D property.

This will take the borough's share of the full council tax bill to £181.71 for 2015-16, up from £178.20 in 2014-15.

Gravesham Council’s cabinet recommended the increase at a cabinet meeting on Monday.

A final decision will be made at a meeting of the full council on February 24.

Council leader John Burden said: "These have been tough years for the council financially. So it is all the more remarkable that we have been able to steer the borough through the tempest of the economic climate while maintaining local services.

"The budget includes continuing all the events, parades and festivals in the borough and continued support for the hugely improved theatre and cinema complex at The Woodville."
