The first part of consultation over a half a billion pound project to replace an incinerator has been completed.

The North London Waste Authority, in Advent Way, Upper Edmonton, will replace its waste site with a new ‘energy recovery facility’ in the same area by 2025, if given consent.

The authority is aiming to recycle half its waste by 2020, and use the latest technology in its new incinerator to improve the air quality of north London.

NLWA chairman Cllr Clyde Loakes said: “If you live in north London, this project is about how your waste, your rubbish is dealt with, and how we hope to deal with it in the future.

“While we will continue to work with the seven north London boroughs to help you recycle as much waste as possible, and I hope at least half of it by 2020, there will remain a need to deal with the rubbish that cannot be recycled – and a new replacement facility will ensure we can do this for many more decades to come.”

The second phase of consultation, which takes place from May 18, until June 30, this year. Then, NLWA will be sharing the detail of the application, including what the new facility will look like.
