A teenage actor has secured a place at one of London’s top drama schools.

Steven Kavuma, a former pupil at Haringey Shed drama school, was selected after auditioning alongside hundreds of other young hopefuls for a place at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in Swiss Cottage.

Mr Kavuma will study Drama Applied Theatre and Writing for Performance and hopes to embark on a career directing theatre.

Mr Kavuma, 18, said: "It really means a lot. Haringey Shed has been amazingly supportive to me. Thanks so much.”

Sir Laurence Olivier and Dame Judi Dench are among actors to have graduated from the Central School of Speech and Drama's courses.

Haringey Shed’s Executive Director, Jim Shepley said: “Steven always took his acting very seriously and has devoted a great deal of time and effort into developing his acting skills.

“We’re really proud of Steven, this is an excellent example of the positive achievements of young people of the borough.”
